beTV Summary

beTV is a plug'n play device to enable iPTV from any location with broadband Internet.

Abstract

Many companies, NGOs or cultural organisations would like to stream their event  on a video channel.

Idea

Whilst the distribution of streams in data centers is available, there is no low-budget video and audio capturing device on the market.

Goal

Conceptual framework / prototype for a streaming box and an automatic mirroring server for various codecs.

Hardware

The hardware setup will be kept low cost and open to encourage reproduction and modification of the beTV box on various platform, architectures and places of the world. Devices will be produced with low power consumption and mobility in mind.

    * PC-104 or similar boards: a real computer, based on mini-itx MBs
    * wireless, fast ethernet, bluetooth, USB, firewire, 7.1 audio in/out
    * HD 160 GB or greater
    * TV In/Out, video grab-in

Software

We will solely use free software components both on the client and server side.

Method

Customised LInux Distribution, based on dyne.org
Darwin Streaming Server
Configuration (if any) via Web Interface and/or infrared control (Freevo)

Potential

Business or Mass customer service for personal / organisation-wide IPTV.
