Guerrilla Jogging Summary

GPS-based Single/Multiplayer Game für PDAs und Smartphones

Abstract

In an virtual paper chase the player has to reach virtual points by moving himself in the real world to the corresponding GPS position as fast as possible.

For every reached point the player gains bonus points dependent to the passed altitude. By using the height as a filter it becomes possible to compare the efforts of different competitions in various terrains. After finishing the game the personal high score can be uploaded to a website where statistics of the personal achievements and a ranking of all users are shown.

In a further step it would be possible to connect via GPRS to a server playing against others in real time. The first player reaching a point gets it. Again the stressing of the bonus points by altitude

allows it to compare the efforts of the different players.

Idee, Ziel & Nutzen (für Anwender)

Guerrilla Jogging tries to combine gaming experience with physical activity. Just to go jogging is quite boring for the majority of us. But everyone knows that he or she should do some sport from time to time. Guerrilla Jogging provides the possibility to match the own performance with others changing normal (lame) physical exercises into a challenging competition.

While hunting for points the player will discover knew locations and places where he maybe hasn't been before, making the sporting experience even more interesting.

On a personal online account on the Guerrilla Jogging Homepage each player can check the personal statistics showing how much kilometers have been run how much points have been reached and how good is the personal achievement compared to others. Via a forum player can meet each other making appointments for a multi player game.

Methode

It is programmed in embedded c++ under GNU puplic license. The game and the whole source code will be down loadable for free from the game-website.

Everyone should feel free to use our code for own projects or (even better) to add more functionality to the existing game logic.

In further versions it is planned to migrate Guerrilla Jogging to various platforms like Symbian, Java etc.

Potential & zeitliche Abschätzung

It is planned to create a kind of community that is playing Guerrilla Jogging regulary and that uses the website as a platform for exchanging experiences comparing achievments and arranging multiplayer games.
Because of Guerrilla Jogging being Open Source we  also expect  the Website being a meeting point for people enhancing the game logic or working on similar projects.
