XEN Hosting

Subject: XEN Farm, quality hosting

Hi Roland,

Is everything all right? Recently I was thinking about the discussion we
had in Linz. You mentioned that there might be need for a special
advanced type of hosting where the hosting provider is able to help and
maintain sites at a much deeper level than currently provided by hosting
companies.

At the time I had not given it a lot of thought but now we are
rethinking and redesigning the whole hosting issue. For this we are
starting a pilot with a XEN virtualisation farm and a connected mass
storage unit.

We will be able to run hosting systems and by using the XEN technology
guaranteed up-time, backup and restore. The up-time is organised because
XEN allows a running system to be transferred to another hardware
without downtime.

Backup and restore will be done in a two level approach:
1: Daily backup of the entire image, the system can therefore be
reinstalled to any desired previous day

2: Backup of the content and the databases, this involves looking into
the system, but will be done on a daily basis.

This way we hope to give a service which takes care of maintaining a
system after the development has ended and all the programmers have gone
home.

Please let us know if this could be interesting for you.

Kind regards,
Robert de Geus
