osAlliance member of COMMUNIA consortium
European alternate licensing experts network starting in September 2007
COMMUNIA is a network of organisations that shall become the single European point of reference for high-level policy discussion and strategic action on all issues related to the public domain in the digital environment, as well as related topics such as alternative forms of licensing for creative material (including, but not limited to, the Creative Commons licenses), open access to scientific publications and research results, management of works whose authors are unknown (i.e. orphan works).
Such discussion will produce as a result a general enrichment of the players involved – the participants of the network and those who will be reached by the dissemination efforts – as well as, and perhaps most importantly, a set of policy guidelines that will help all the stakeholders, public and private, from the local to the European level, understand the role of the digital public domain and its potentialities for economic, technological, scientific progress and for the cultural and democratic development of European societies.
The COMMUNIA project is managed by the Politecnico Turino and involves 30+ partners from most European Union Member states.
The kick-off meeting will be held in Turino on 28 September 2007.
